KC Chiefs beat New England Patriots 23-16

CHIEFS CLINCH AFC WEST FOR RECORD FOURTH-CONSECUTIVE TIME: With today’s 23-16 victory, the Chiefs clinched the AFC West Division championship for the fourth-consecutive season (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019), extending the franchise record for most-consecutive division titles.

REID’S HEAD COACHING SUCCESS: With today’s 23-16 victory, Head Coach Andy Reid now owns 204 regular season wins for his career. His 204 regular season wins are the sixth-most all-time by an NFL head coach. Reid tallied 130 wins while at the helm of the Philadelphia Eagles (1999-2012) and has won 74 games since his arrival in Kansas City in 2013. Reid now owns 216 regular and postseason victories (204 regular, 12 postseason), the sixth-most all-time wins by an NFL head coach in league history. Reid only trails New England’s Bill Belichick (302) for most wins by an active NFL head coach. With today’s win, Reid also tallied his 100th career road victory. Reid and Belichick are the only two active NFL head coaches with 200 or more victories and 100 or more road victories.

REID AND BELICHICK SQUARE UP IN HISTORIC MATCHUP: Entering today’s game, Kansas City Head Coach Andy Reid (203) and New England Head Coach Bill Belichick (271) had combined for 474 career regular season victories, marking the second-most combined regular season wins between two head coaches in NFL history. The pair’s 474 wins at kickoff of today’s game trailed only Don Shula (251) and Tom Landry (245) who combined for 496 regular season wins when the Dolphins and Cowboys met on November 22, 1987.

CHIEFS SNAP NEW ENGLAND’S 21-GAME WIN STREAK AT HOME: With today’s win, Kansas City snapped a 21-game home winning streak (regular season and postseason) by the New England Patriots in Foxborough. Their last loss at Gillette Stadium came on Oct. 1, 2017 when the Carolina Panthers defeated the Patriots, 33-30. 

KPASSAGNON BLOCKS FIELD GOAL: DE Tanoh Kpassagnon blocked Patriots K Nick Folk’s 41-yard field goal attempt, which was recovered by CB Charvarius Ward. Kpassagnon blocked Oakland’s extra point attempt in the previous week which was also recovered by Ward and returned for a defensive two-point conversion. This marks the Chiefs first blocked field goal since S Eric Murray blocked a 53-yard field goal attempt at Oakland on Oct. 19, 2017. Kpassagnon finished the game with two tackles (one solo), one quarterback hit and one blocked field goal on special teams.

HARDMAN LOGS LONG TOUCHDOWN RECEPTION: Rookie WR Mecole Hardman scored his sixth touchdown of the season on 48-yard pass from QB Patrick Mahomes. With six touchdowns during his rookie season, Hardman ties Fred Arbanas, Stephone Paige and Tyreek Hill for the most receiving touchdowns during a Chiefs player’s rookie season. Hardman’s 48-yard touchdown reception was his lone reception of the game.

BREELAND PICKS OFF BRADY: CB Bashaud Breeland picked off Patriots QB Tom Brady in the second quarter of today’s game, returning the ball four yards to New England’s 35-yard line. This marks Breeland’s second interception of the season and the 12th of his career. Breeland finished the game with three solo tackles, two passes defensed and one interception. Breeland’s interception marked the Chiefs seventh in the past three games (4 at LAC; 2 vs. OAK).

KELCE LOGS FIRST-CAREER RUSHING TOUCHDOWN: TE Travis Kelce logged his first-career rushing touchdown in today’s game on a four-yard rush. Kelce owns four rushing attempts during his career for six yards and one touchdown. Kelce finished the game with seven receptions for 66 yards and four rushing yards on one attempt with one rushing touchdown.

CLARK SACKS BRADY: DE Frank Clark tallied his sixth sack of the season taking down Patriots QB Tom Brady for a loss of four yards. Clark now owns 41.0 sacks (-245.5 yards) for his career. Clark finished the game with four tackles (three solo), including two for loss, one quarterback hit and 1.0 sack (-4.0 yards).

JONES TAKES DOWN BRADY: DT Chris Jones sacked Patriots QB Tom Brady for a loss of 10 yards in today’s game. Jones owns a team-high 7.0 sacks on the season and 31.0 sacks (-238.0 yards) for his career. Jones finished the game with three tackles (two solo), including one for loss, one quarterback hit and 1.0 sack (-10.0 yards).

OKAFOR SACKS BRADY: DE Alex Okafor logged his fourth sack of the season, taking down Patriots QB Tom Brady for a loss of six yards and forcing a fourth down. Okafor owns 26.0 sacks (-164.5 yards) for his career. Okafor finished the game with two solo tackles, including one for loss, one quarterback hit and 1.0 sack (-6.0 yards).

COLQUITS HITS 50,000 CAREER PUNTING YARDS: With three punts for 131 yards (43.7 gross avg., 32.8 net avg.) in today’s game, P Dustin Colquitt now owns 50,118 gross punting yards for his career. He is only the ninth punter in NFL history to record 50,000 or more punting yards for their career.
