The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Raiders 35 – 31 Sunday Night Football

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Las Vegas Raiders, 35-31, an exciting on the edge of your seat Sunday night football game at Allegiant Stadium. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes led a game-winning drive in the closing seconds of the contest. Taking over at the Kansas City 25-yard line with less than two minutes remaining, Mahomes led the Chiefs down the field in just one minute and 15 seconds as he hit tight end Travis Kelce for a 22-yard touchdown to re-take the lead.

With today’s 35-31 victory over the Raiders, Head Coach Andy Reid now owns 231 regular and postseason victories (216 regular,15 postseason), the fifth-most all-time wins by an NFL head coach in league history. Reid tallied 140 regular and postseason wins while at the helm of the Philadelphia Eagles (1999-2012) and has won 91 total games since his arrival in Kansas City in 2013. He only trails New England’s Bill Belichick (308) for most combined wins by an active NFL head coach. Reid and Belichick are the only two active NFL head coaches with 200 or more victories. His 216 career regular season wins (130 in Philadelphia, 86 in Kansas City) are the sixth most regular season wins in NFL history. With tonight’s win, Reid has extended his career record coming off of a bye week to 19-3.

STRINGING WINS TOGETHER UNDER REID: With tonight’s win at Las Vegas, the Chiefs move to 9-1 on the season and are on a five-game winning streak. This marks the eighth-consecutive year that the club has had a minimum of a five-game winning streak during the regular season under Head Coach Andy Reid. Since Reid’s arrival, the team has had streaks of nine straight wins in 2013, five straight in 2014, 10 straight in 2015, five straight in 2016, five straight in 2017, five straight in 2018, six straight in 2019 and now five straight in 2020.

CHIEFS FIND FIRST DOWN SUCCESS: In tonight’s victory over the Raiders, the Chiefs converted 36 first downs, tying a franchise record that has stood since 2004 when the team tallied 36 first downs against the Falcons (10/24/04). Kansas City tallied 10 first downs by rushing, 22 by passing and four by penalty. The 22 first downs by passing are the fourth-most in single game in franchise history. The teams combined for 61 total first downs (KC 36, LV 25), the third-most combined first downs in a game in team history.

He passes QB Alex Smith (102) for the fourth-most touchdown passes in Chiefs history. Mahomes finished the game completing 34-of-45 passes (75.6%) for 348 yards, two passing touchdowns and a 102.8 passer rating. His 348 passing yards in today’s game give him 12,447 career passing yards, the fifth-most passing yards in Chiefs history. Mahomes owns 23 career games with 300+ passing yards and has six on the season. His 102.8 passer rating gives him 27 career games with a 100.0+ passer rating, tying QB Trent Green for the third-most in franchise history.

Hill owns 11 touchdowns this season (10 receiving, one rushing) and 52 all-purpose touchdowns for his career (42 receiving, five rushing, four punt return and one kick return). He finished the game with 102 receiving yards on 11 receptions with one touchdown, recording his 14th-career 100-yard receiving game.

EDWARDS-HELAIRE RUSHES IN TWICE: Chiefs rookie RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire scored two rushing touchdowns in tonight’s game on a three-yard rush in the second quarter and a 14-yard rush in the third quarter. He owns four rushing touchdowns (five total touchdowns) on the season. This marked Edwards-Helaire’s first-career multi-touchdown game. He finished the game with 69 rushing yards on 14 attempts with two rushing touchdowns and one reception for eight yards.

BELL TAKES IT TO THE HOUSE: Chiefs RB Le’Veon Bell scored his first touchdown in Chiefs uniform in tonight’s game on a six-yard run in the fourth quarter. Bell owns 47 career touchdowns (39 rushing, eight receiving) in seven seasons with the Steelers, Jets and Chiefs. He finished the game with 25 rushing yards on seven attempts with one touchdown and one reception for 11 receiving yards.

SORENSEN TAKES IT AWAY: Chiefs S Daniel Sorensen picked off Raiders QB Derek Carr to seal the Chiefs victory in tonight’s game in Las Vegas. Sorensen leads the Chiefs defense with three interceptions this season. He owns 10 interceptions for his career and his three this season tie his single-season career high (2016). He finished the game with four tackles (three solo), one pass defensed and one interception. 

BUTKER SURPASSES 500 CAREER POINTS: With five points (five PATs) in tonight’s game, Chiefs K Harrison Butker now owns 503 career points, moving past RB Priest Holmes (500) for the fourth-most all-time points scored in franchise history. He becomes the fifth player in franchise history with 500 or more career points. He is 15 points shy of passing K Ryan Succop (517) for third place on the list.
