Missouri Magazine: Tell us about you and your role at American Family Insurance – Reid & Associates, LLC.
I’m Nathan Reid, CEO & Owner of Reid & Associates, LLC – American Family Insurance located at the Lake of the Ozarks in Osage Beach & Lake Ozark and the 2020 Missouri’s Best Insurance Agent. I was born and raised in Missouri, in Sweet Springs which is a small town located between Kansas City & Columbia. I attended Sweet Springs Elementary School K-3 and then went to Northwest Elementary in Houstonia for 4-6, and Northwest High School in Hughesville (outside of Sedalia). I have always been competitive and had a desire to be the best in all that I do. In school I was a 2x All State outfielder in baseball for the Northwest Mustangs, one of the captains for the Northwest soccer team earning All District honors. I played with a lot of good athletes at Northwest, with our baseball teams winning the Kaysinger Conference Championship 3 years in a row, and District Championships 2 years, Elite 8 2 years, and Final Four once. We also claimed a Kaysinger Conference Championship in basketball, and District Championships in soccer. This competitive nature helped shape who I am today in our Insurance Agency. My insurance agency is comprised of a team of 5 of us, each a licensed agent who can assist our clients with any need they may have. We all come from competitive backgrounds and that helps us each day come to work ready to be the best for our clients and community.
After high school I graduated from State Fair Community College in Sedalia, MO with my Associates Degree, and then graduated from William Woods University in Fulton, MO for my Bachelor’s Degree. I enjoyed William Woods University so much, that I stayed there for two more years as a graduate assistant in the Residential Life & Intramural Sports Departments, earning my Masters Degree from WWU with a 4.0 GPA. It was at WWU that I met my wife Bethany who earned her degree there in American Sign Language. We have been married for 10 years now and have 4 little ones.
We lived in Ashland, MO the first 3 years of our marriage, as she worked in Columbia as an ASL Interpreter, and I worked in Jefferson City for American Family Insurance. Soon after that the Insurance Agent at the Lake of the Ozarks announced he was going to retire, so I applied for and was accepted for the position as the American Family Insurance Agent for the Lake of the Ozarks back in 2012. We took care of his existing agency clients and worked to grow the agency helping as many new clients as possible. Our goal is to help 1000 new clients each year with their insurance. It’s such a rewarding career, because you can change someone’s life in so many ways. We can explain coverages and why they should have them for life’s unexpected events (such as a tornado, hitting a deer, or protecting their family with life insurance). Not only that, but we also make sure they get the best price and earn all of the discounts that are available. By doing this we frequently save people hundreds, and at times thousands of dollars while providing the same or better insurance coverages than their current policy. Putting hundreds or thousands of dollars back in the customers pocket is such a rewarding feeling.
Earning Missouri’s Best Insurance Agent was such a blessing to myself and our team, to be recognized by the community of Missouri for taken care of our clients, each and every day! For American Family Insurance we have earned numerous distinctions, being a Top 10 Agency in our Sales State, helping 1000 new clients per year, being Missouri’s Agent of the Month, being named an All American Agent & Premier Leader Agent (overall sales & service), Gold Key Agent (commercial business insurance), Distinguished Life Diamond Agent (life insurance) & Brokerage Gold Agent. While all of those awards have been inspiring to our team, none has been so impactful as the Missouri Magazine’s 2020 Missouri’s Best Insurance Agent Award, as that was voted on by the people of Missouri. We are so thankful for all of our families, friends, clients, and the community for their support, and will cherish this award each and every day.

Nathan Reid: The Holy Land, to be able to walk where Jesus walked.

Nathan Reid: I love to play volleyball, both indoor and sand, and our Mid-Missouri team won the bronze medal in the Show Me State Games for indoor volleyball recently.
